im considering getting AD PRO…or image efx..but new to paint programs outside
of the taoster…got an unbiased reccomemedationm for ease of use?…and
functions?..
also..I wish to take my clip art form windows publiashing programs to my
toaster CG as a brush..can you name a good and easy product to do that?
I can't really give you a recommendation, as I have not used either
product, but I do know that AD Pro and Image FX are NOT paint programs but
are image processing programs, ie the perform certain transformations on
images. I know AD PRO does a lot of file conversions, but I can't say for
sure if it would take your Windows clipart to a toaster CG brush.

Image FX dose.
Image FX IS a paint program, but if that was all you bought it for you
would be very disapointed. Anyway, to bring a brush into CG it needs to be
24 Bit. You can creat a brush in dpaint (or Image FX itself) and bring it
in to I-FX and resave it as 24 bit ILBM. It works real well I'v recently
done some nice ESPN/MTV style lower thirds this way.
and as far as the paint part goes, it's realy not that bad and it's my
only 24 bit paint package that suports pressure sensitivity.

sorry..but Im confuesed…I waish to make brusahes for use in my TOaster
CG..from Windows word publishing clip art…I have thousands of images in my
IBM and I would like them on pages in the CG…
would image efx do them easily?..they are PCX and WMF (windowes meta files)
formats…

Yes… Image FX will read your PCX files; as well as ALIAS, ANIM, BMP,
DCTV, DPIIE, FAXX, FLI, FrameStore (with the addition of Toaster FX), GIF,
HAME, ICO, ILBM, IMG8, Impulse, .info, JPEG, MacPaint,pbm, PCX, qrt,
Rendition, sculpt, Targa, Tiff, Vmem, and YUVM.

Image FX is also a paint program. I don't know how it compares to Brilliance,
but it's a decent paint program in its own right.

Al,
you may want to look at back issues of AmigaWorld or Amazing to get
reviews on both programs. Image FX seems to come off the better of the
two image processing programs in the reviews. Also, updates seem to be
more often as well. Personally, I use AdPro, but that is solely due to
the fact that I can't afford to switch <grin>.
As someone has pointed out, these are image processing programs, not
paint programs. For a paint program, I have only one suggestion although
I should point out that you may want to consider a program that is 100%
compatible with your video board, whatever that is. These beasties are
highly subjective. My suggestion is that you try a few of the
freebies/shareware over in AmigaArts first to get a handle on what your
needs are, then look for reviews to determine which matches your needs.
I can't help you with the rest, save that both AdPro and ImageFX are
able to convert between Windows graphics and Amiga format.

Al….What type of pc clip art are you trying to import? ADPro has a universal
loader that can load most types of files, and you can buy add on packages that
will extend your capabilities. Targa, Tiff, and Gif are some of the file types
that are supported. The framestore saver in adpro will let you load your clip
art into the toaster, and the toaster software can manipulate it from there. I

PMFJI but if you are really more in need of a paint program than an image
processing program, have you considered an Opalvision Board (which
includes OpalPaint)?
I use ImageFX, Adpro, Imagemaster and Opal Paint. The first three are
primarily image processors with ImageFX and Imagemaster having paint
functions. Opal Paint is an excellent paint program with not
inconsiderable image processing functions. The OpalVision main board price
is down under $400. and includes OpalPaint as well as an animation and
slide-show type program. However, it does need to be in the video slot. (I
think there are some companies coming out with videoslot extensions).
I run OpalVision with PicassoII and an Idek multisynch monitor and the
graphics output is excellent.

thnak you..being a Toaster user..I wonder if I can run Opalvison…I should
prpbably get Image EFX…
as long as it easly will take my clip art form WINDOWS publishing programs and
make them into brusehes…do yo know the process?
Can't say that I do. But I can envision it and I'm pretty sure Image FX
will do that for you.

I'm thinking of getting a PicassoII to use with my OpalBoard (mainly to
de-interlace my non-Opal output). How well does it work together? Do you need
a switchbox bewteen the two boards?

The combination works beautifully and flawlessly in my system. I have
OpalVision main board connected to the Picasso II board, and Picasso II to
my Idek multisynch. monitor. No switchbox is necessary.

I played around with this combination today and it does seem to work
fine with one (small??) problem. When the screen is promoted to a Picasso
screen it's skewed off to the right. I've tried adjusting it with Overscan, and
with MonEd with little to no success. I CAN adjust it frim within my monitor
(NEC 3D) but then the Opal screen is skewed to the left.
I called Centaur and they said that was "just the way it was" and that
I'd have to re-adjust my monitor each time I went from one to the other. Of
course, Centaur also told me (earlier) that I'd need a switchbox, so maybe
they don't know everything.
Do you have to re-adjust your moniter each time? What's your secret?

I am suprised no one has recommended ImageMaster! It is by far the
cheapest (under $75) and probaly the most powerful, updates are just a few
dollars, and they (Black Belt Systems) have their own area in AVendor.
Granted it is not the easiest program to learn but the help system is a
lot better than AmigaGuide. And Ben, is usually hanging out in Avendor to
give a helping hand almost daily. As far as I can tell it does more types
of conversions than any of the others. Anyway check it out before you
make your decision.

There was a review of the `big three' image processors around the first
of the year, in AmigaWorld, if you have access to some old amigaworlds,
that would give you a start. You may also want to post your questions
concerning ImageMaster, ImageFX and AdPro in the appropriate forums in
AmigaVendor (ImageMaster in Black Belt Systems, AdPro in ASDG, ImageFX in
GVP). I am sure you will get good responses there. As you are a Toaster
user you can ask in NewTeks area also and get feedback from other Toaster
Users. Your local users group (if there is one in your area) should have
members with these programs that may demo them for you.

I'll be honest with you. I couldn't live without either of these
programes. I think I use ADPro the most for manipulating images. but Image
FX has its powers in other areas, like regonal procsesing. Another real
nice feature in Image FX is auto learning Arexx macros. Turn it on, do
somthing, turn it off, now you have a new macro. It's that simple…
