To All I would like some advice. I wan't to buy a graphics card but don't know which 1 to get. At the moment I'm quit kean on the Picasso II card as the price is good for me but if it is worth paying more I will. My setup is: Amiga 2000 WB3.1 GVP 030 40Mhz Multisinc Monitor. I would appriciate any feedback from anyone using these cards. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

Gary, I have a Retina Z3 on my 3000 and am extremely happy with it. I've had excellent compatibility with non-game software, even DPaint IV! Brilliance is the only one so far that hasn't worked. It is a bit more money than the Picasso, but are supposed to be faster and more software friendly than the EGS boards. Many people seem to be happy with the Picasso, though. DJ

DJ, Gary can't use a Zorro-III based card on an A2000. In fact, no one can. S.G. Bailey Image Dynamics – Chicago

John, You are absolutely right! I forgot that it is a pure Zorro III card, unlike the Picasso. DJ

Gary, Hello, I own Amiga A2000 with WB 2.1 . I plan to purchase an accel. 030/040 in coming months. I want to upgrade WB first. Would you tell me which version of OS3.1 you ordered for A2000 w/ accel. card ? There are two types in Ads. -one for A500 to A2000 -another for A3000 to A4000. I read a message from other user that UU may release 64bit true color card. That seemed to release faster than DKB Talon. If true, it is worth to wait. I sent a message to UU-Jim about that yesterday. Reply message is waiting. If false, I would choose Picasso II first ,Merlin is second choice. Retina II is weaker than them in update product review. Thanks for your help. Roger. From Hong Kong.

Roger I brought the A2000 version as A3000 to A4000 will not work on a 2000. If you use PPage 4.1 a lot there is a problem with it. It will not work in the colour mode. Gold Disk are awear of this but have no fix and probly will never do. I have ordered PageSteam 3. I hope its as good as they say. I look forward to your reply from UU-Jim. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

Gary: I have been thinking about a graphics card for my A 3000 and I am equally confused about which one to go for, if any. Have you read the review of all the cards in the latest Amiga Shopper? I have and I am still confused! Bob

Bob I know what you mean. My fellings are towards the PicassoII because of price. Amiga Shopper didn't help much. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

Gary: I have also heard good reports about the Picasso II. The latest Retina is also said to be good but has the major disadvantage of not having a `pass thru' for the monitor thus you really need two monitors in order to avoid having to swop connectorsall the time… I'm not surprised that the Amiga Shopper reviews didn't help! To be honest, I'm inclined to wait and see if the A 5000 ever materialises which will have 24 bit displays etc built in. Regards Bob

I have a Retina Z3 and have not had to switch in weeks. But then I don't run any really wierd programs :). The only thing I wish I could run is Brilliance, but I do OK with DPaint IV. DJ

Bob I have a big problem with PPage 4.1 is that it will not work in the colour mode with WB3.1. I have spoken to the company who sold WB3.1 to me. He has a Picasso II on a 4000. The fault only shows up on his when runninig 'Pass thru' on the Picasso. Which means the Picasso seems fix my problem. If anyone is using a 2000, could they try the above to see if the same happens. If so I will get a Picasso board. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

I am using an A2000 with PicassoII and WB3.1, I just used PPage 4.1 for a four page project, it worked perfectly in 256 color mode ( faster than 8 color mode under WB 2.1 ! ). PPage was not real happy under WB 2.1, so far under WB 3.1 it has been flawless. If you have specific questions please let me know, I will try to help. Gary

Hi Gary Thanks for the reply. Have you tried running PPage without PicassoII. Am I correct in saying it has a 'pass trou'?. If the fault shows up and not on the Picasso then I'll order it ASAP. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

To all.. I need some info on 24 bit boards. Is any one board faster than another? Does any board do ham 8 ? Will a 2000 with an 040 and a 24 bit board move graphics (256 color) faster than a 4000? Is there an advantage to a retina z3 as opposed to a z2 when used in a 2000? Will a z3 work in a 2000? (if it will, then I can move it into my 4000 when I buy one 🙂 Are all boards upwardly or downwardly compatible? Does the GVP Spectrum address the 32 bit expansion bus that was put in the Gforce 040 board (for just such an occasion)? Does any board excel at emulating the AGA chipset? Did you ever notice that no matter how much milk you put in your oatmeal, it's still the same consistency? Did you ever notice that if you don't sleep because you stayed up all night playing with your computer, that your brain turns into oatmeal? 🙂 Mike Brennan, Sir Render A/V "Yea, though I walk through the silicon valley of death, I fear no evil, for my faith in the Amiga has given me eternal bytes!"

If you only need video resolution and if it comes in PAL, I recommend the Opalvision Main Board. The price here in the States had dropped to $389. I use it for graphics work and feel that it is perfect for my application. Jim R. Ollick Using AP from Bergenfield, NJ
