I was thinking of getting a new EMPlant, but Jim Drew will not give me any
info on the 486 emulation. He refuses to reply to inquiries on the 486
module. So I don't feel terribly comfortable purchasing an EMPlant for
IBM emulation (unless I can get some facts). I think your 486 is out of
my price range, since I will be purchasing it for home use. BTW, was that
a Golden Gate Bridgeboard? I've heard good things about them awhile ago,
but was unable to locate the company recently.

No, mine is a CBM bridgeboard. However, if you look at the GG 486
board you'll find that new they are far more expensive than mine, have less
RAM, and don't perform as well. But you should look into it yourself. At $650
my 486 BB is a good price with 5 meg RAM. The main drawback to the CBM vs the
GG is that the GG does have a hard drive controller and VGA support, but at a
cost of over a grand for the 486 version. At $800 for my BB and multi-i/o
board you have a complete PC. However, if you only want 386 performance, then
look for a used CBM BB which hasn't been converted. They should be around
$200, if you find one for sale. You might call EMC at 908-541-4214 to see if
Dave has any 386 boards for sale. You will still need the multi-i/o card for
the 3000 if you want the IDE controller and SVGA video. It's really the only
inexpensive solution for the 3000 with its two BB slots. The multi-i/o card
from EMC is $200, new. That would probably be your least expensive solution,
provided Dave has any 386 BBs available.
