#Windows file imports

We're trying to bring some Corel Draw graphic files into the Toaster
4000 and I'm wondering what the best format/way is? Any ideas.
Thanks.
Lightwave can import .tga bitmaps, otherwise you'll have to convert
whatever image you save into the Amiga IFF24 format either on the
Amiga side or with something on the PC like Hijaak. If you can make
a 752×480 24-bit image on the pC, it will fill the screen.
Just "export" your Corel file to a .tga file on a 1.44M floppy. Set
your resolution to 752×480 and the DPI to 75. That will give you a
file of just over 1M. Make sure you've got CrossDos running and just
bring in the file as you would any other file.
Before the current version of LW, I had to go through all sorts of
hoops and programs to get the job done. This is really easy. The only
problems I've seen are in Corel itself. It seems to "greek" really
small text during the export, so you'll have to watch out if you're
using small text.
I've had alot of success with ImageF/X on the Amiga doing what
you want to do. Although you could export graphics as .tga files,
with ImageF/X you can use a number of other file formats as well:
.BMP, .GIF, and .TIF files work great. If you have Pixel 3D you could
save the save the graphic as a 2 or 4 color IFF (in ImageF/X), then
convert it to a LightWave object in Pixel 3D. I've done this quite a
few times with mixed results.
I think people have covered the file format issue and given you a
bunch of options. I just wanted to add one hint in terms of the way
of transferring the files. If you're just doing one or two, disks
are the way to go-but for multiple files and the occasional large
graphic you might want to consider using a null modem cable between
your PC and the Amiga. Then you can xfer files using any comm
program. I use ProComm on the PC and downloaded the FREE program
Backtalk from one of the Amiga forums. You also might want to
consider downloading both Amiga and PC versions of the LHA/LZH
archiving program since it is the only one I've found so far that
works reliably on both platforms. It can be a handy tool for really
big xfers. -dk
