I am desparately trying to cut the lo-top shoe that comes with 3DS in half, vertically, so that I have a cut-away view. I have composited all the objects together, so that the shoe is one object. I then made a grid, 50x50x10. I then tesselated the shoe twice and the grid once. 3DS runs for about 15 minutes on my Pentium, then comes back saying, "cannot boolean, adjust geometry". What can I do???? Is there any way of figuring out exactly what the problem is and fixing it? Are my objects too complicated now? I would think that I have plenty of faces in both objects… Help! I guess I could try to start over and do the shoe one piece at a time instead of as a whole. Arrrgh! Doug, Have you tried using the alternative Rev 2 boolean process? Sometimes this will work when the R3 process fails. Accessing the R2 process is accomplished by holding down the alt key during the boolean calculations until "partitioning faces" is complete. Sounds like in your case you might have to tape it down!

Doug, you might try Booleaning one object at a time, with an identicle subtraction object each time. Make absolutely sure your objects are down to the Element level (ie: no multiple element objects; detach them all first), and then see if you can't Boolean them independently. I've had good results this way in the past. FWIW, -Alan

Thanks Alan. I'll try that. Perhaps my elemental objects are the problem, not the number of faces. – Doug Wolfgram/GRAFX, Written 25-Aug-1994 @ 10:59:50 Using: Windows NavCIS PRO 1.21
