Anyone have some suggestions for good GIS books or magazines? What software does one use for GIS? I keep hearing about ESRI, and MapInfo products most often.

Hello Albert, The two GIS type magizines that I know of are GIS World and Geo Info Systems. I do not have the phone number or the address of either. Also, another Geo Science magazine is Earth Observation Magazine. Lot's of good books, what exactly would your application be? This is a great field/computer application. Depending upon what direction you are heading, I would be happy to provide some more information. Good Luck, Paul

Paul, My main interest is in learning something new. Also it sounds like an interesting area to write programs for. I do quite a bit of database and network programming and it seems like it would be a fun application to apply to the existing database data. MapInfo (demo) at Comdex in 1992 sparked my interest in the area of GIS also. It seems like quite a bit of information is available but I do not know what to hit first. Feels like when you first learning about computers and don't know the terms (eg Ram and Rom) except as applied to GIS. So any information/books/ideas can you give me would be very helpful. — Albert
