Hi, David!
Good to hear from you. I hope everything is going well for you and you are
able to fit at least one of these things into your schedule soon.
I just picked up a digital drumset (Yamaha) so the whole thing can be done
at headphone level now (all-night jams!), and with a headphone splitter and
plenty of "cans" everyone can have fun!
Probably gonna add a Korg X-3 next.

Sounds fun! I'm still saving my pennies to get out to videotape. Maybe after
that I'll get back into lusting after musical equipment. Till then I guess I'll
make do with my current 4 guitars, etc. I have been practicing again, lately.
I've also been working in Photoshop on some backgrounds/textures for an
animation that's percolating in my leetle brain.

Uh-Huh! I know it's a little early, and CA is pretty far, David, but maybe at
SigGraph'95?? If you, at any point, think you might make it, we could start
swapping tapes to get a little jam-thing ready…

Well, California is farther than Florida from here, but my financial situation
is considerably better than it was *and* my parents live in Sacramento which is
only 400+ miles north of LA, so … MAYbe. It *would* be hip. Sorry I haven't
sent you any tapes, yet. I barely have time to pick my nose, lately. I've
gotten back on CServe because I needed to get some tech support for KPT 2.0,
parts of which lock up my computer EVery time. Anyway, it will happen when the
ebb and flow of time and space configure themselves correctly. (Hm. I think a
bubble of 1973 just floated by.)

Maybe it's the layout of my room/office, but I find it hard to get to my
keyboard and mouse over the body of my Guild acoustic. In long renders I can
get a few licks in, but I end up holding it to invoke a few more commands and
finally big creases appear in my leg and chest. Then I walk around like a
troglodyte for half an hour. Regrettably, I get much better practicing in when
I concentrate on it. That means I have to think about squeezing TWO things into
a life that I can barely fit a knife blade in the seams of. (Oops! <= Dangling
participle!)

For killing time during renders I resort to the harp. It doesn't interfere with
keyboarding and fits neatly on my desk . It also helps to have my favorite
Willy Dixon tape going so I have some one to play along with.
ME
I have been keeping my eye peeled for a Celtic-style harp for some time, but
the only one I've seen, so far, I was unable to afford at the time. While I
mostly play blues- country-influenced rock, I also have a favorite musician
who's now a Scottish bard, in the old sense. At his shows he plays harp and
tells circuitous tales, as well as playing various other stringed instruments
to accompany songs. To "cover" his tunes and general vibe I want to learn to
play. It would also be nice to have a portable instrument where the hands can
operate seperately. I can play contrapuntally on the guitar, somewhat, but it's
a bitch. I've thought of slicing the webbing between my fingers but realize it
wouldn't really help. <g>
What sort of harp have you got? What's the range?
