I am looking for Rexxplus.library and Rpstart better known as the Rexx Plus stuff.. If anyone has it, can you upload it? Thanks!

Frank, RexxPlus is a commercial product. It's not available for public distribution. If you are interested call Dineen Edwards, Inc. at 313-352-4288.

A runtime license is required to distribute executables. Certain support files are covered by the license because they are required by any RexxPlus executable. Bob

Rob, Yes, I know. But the message requested someone upload RexxPlus and the compiler is not distributable, only those support files required to run a compiled program on another machine not equipped with RexxPlus. Those support files and the runtime library may only be distributed if the author has paid the license fee. On a related topic, do you know if Dineen Edwards is still in business? I've sent EMAIL and regular mail to Mark, but haven't heard from them. I also no longer see their ads in the magazines, so I wonder if the venture has died.

I don't know. Its been a while since I spoke with them. The latest version of the compiler is 1.34. I was reporting bugs on a regular basis prior to that version. Haven't had any worth reporting with v 1.34. It would be a shame if they folded… Bob

Bob, Well, my last version was 1.3, so you are a few versions ahead. I left Mark a message on Bixnet. Maybe he'll respond. If not, I may call to see if they are still around. I'd hate to see them fail. I've used the compiler a lot. Lately, I've needed some new rp libs for some of the newer rexx libraries such as rexxreqtools. I sent him a disk with the library in the hope that he would send me the rp lib, but never heard back. Either they aren't around, too busy, or it was lost in the mail.

If you know how to build a dummy ARexx library, the rp library is easy to create. Instead of calling the function, it just tells the compiler that the function exists in the library. Bob

Bob, Unfortunately, I am not equipped to build a shared library. It's not too critical a problem. My scripts that use those libraries are just not compiled. BTW, have you come across the demo, ZedRexx? It's written by David Junod and is selling as a commercial product for $35. It provides a simple and almost english syntax for building GUIs into ARexx programs. I found it on Bix, but it may be here as well. I've ordered it and am waiting for delivery, although I played with the demo programs. It's really very nice and provides everything one could do with Apig and/or rexxarplib. Check it out if you are interested in that sort of stuff. In fact, it may be even more of a reason to hope RexxPlus is still alive!

Yes. I have it on order as well. I have a rather large shared library under developement which I hope to someday release. I have slowed down quite a bit the development since the CA demise. I have not tried to compile any of the Zed stuff – it needs some changes to eliminate the INTERPRET calls (the scripts that is). BTW, the newer IBM mainframe REXX compilers now support INTERPRET so perhaps RexxPlus will one day as well. Bob

Bob, Well, the ZedRexx package just arrived today! Unfortunately, David has't finished the documentation, so the preliminary docs are very brief. The letter promised that the completed docs would be sent (no charge) as soon as it was completed. I'll try to spend some time with it this weekend to see what it's like. I have several different scripts with apig GUIs which are perfect for conversion, but the conversion may not be quick, given the learning curve. I sent a brief note to Junod suggesting that he may want to consider a mod to get rid of the INTERPRET and to write the "rp" libs so a ZedRexx script might be compiled with RexxPlus. Of course, if Dineen Edwards is no longer around, that may be an unnecessary suggestion! In fact, the PC Rexxes do quite a lot of things nowadays. I particularly was intrigued by Visual Rexx for OS/2, which is sort of a rexx version of visual basic. Talk about a full blown programming environment! I suggested to Junod that he might try to make that marriage between ZedRexx and CanDo, a true visual rexx for the Amiga.

The way to dump INTERPRET goes something like this: 'zWaitForEvent 'stem.' EventProc = RESULT CALL EventHandler() .. .. EventHandler: signal value(EventProc) RETURN Bob

Well, i am looking for rexxplus for tradewars for cnet.. perhaps its got runtime stuff? all i need is RPSTART i have rexxplus.library..

It should be part of the archive. The run time license is required to distribute compiled versions of the script. The license requires that it be distributed with the necessary support files. The version numbers of the support files must more or less match the compiler version which produced the executable. If these files were included, even if you are somehow able to obtain them, there is a real good chance that they are incompatible with the compiled executable. Excuse me, I meant to say "If these files were _NOT_ included…" Bob

Thank you, I didn't know for sure.. Sounds like a most worthy investment. Thanks again!
