Could you please tell me how to issue escape sequences from address book
templates. I would like to create bold text as well as shading of areas of my
custom templates. Essentially I am trying to re-create Address Book Plus
layouts for my daily Planner.

You can only print bold text for either your entire template, header or footer.
Currently there is no way to shade specific areas, I will add that to our
suggestion database. We will have a printing update scheduled for release with
version 4.2.
