To all that guided the decaling, I appreciate your input. Finally I got it right. This is pretty neat stuff. Now, how in the world would one go about creating fillets on all the sharp edges of extruded profiles? Most of my objects are crude boxes that need some softening up. I know how to do this in DESIGNER or ACIS solids with R13, but how do I do it in 3D Studio? Secondly, Will the next release of 3DS run inside WIN95? Are there any beta testers out there that can comment on this? Thanks a million, Zack Lyon P.S. One last thing. I am in the market for a printer for output from 3DS. I am considering the EPSON STYLUS color printer, and a dye sublimation printer by the name of FARGO PRIMERA. Can anyone comment on output from 3DS with these printers? I would like to do some company literature with the sam printer that I ultimately chose as well. Given those issues where is my money best spent?

>> fillets on all the sharp edges << Zack You may want to try chamfered corners before fillets, creates fewer faces. Chamfer where you can on the shape before lofting. After lofting create a box, position it on the edge and Create/Object/Boolean/Subtract. Almost all Objects should have the edges clipped slightly to catch and reflect the light better. Both the Stylus and the Primera give good results for the money. Watch for news this week from Siggraph on what the new 3DS will be like, I doubt if Autodesk lets beta testers comment. Given those issues where is my money best spent?<< FWIW, I've been very happy with my Epson. Can't beat the price. The Fargo is slightly better but not for the price difffernce.I use it for previews to my clients. A full page color print at 720 dpi will take about 20 min to print. You can't print to the Epson ( or the Fargo, I believe ) from 3DS. Use a good paint program such as Photoshop. You'll find the need to tweak the image settings anyways before you print. Remember, what you see is not what you get when you print to paper. Also, check out the Epson user forum, an invaluble resource. Hope this helps! Bill – Triffet Animation Co.

William, I believe I have finally decided to go the EPSON STYLUS direction. I can get a RIP from BIRMY graphics for it and I can't for the FARGO. Although, I found a slightly used FARGO for $375. I can get a STYLUS for about $470 brand new. Which choice would you take? My opinion is that I will get tired of paying the extras for premium print supplies. Right? Your opinion is greatly appreciated, Zack Lyon P.S. I purchase Photoshop 3.0 just for this purpose. I am set to go except I need a printer.

BTW, you will find the supplies for all of these new color printers are a bit pricey. I think it works out to about .25 cents a print on the Epson. Not too bad though considering the output quality. Beware of CPS ( Compulsive Printing Syndrome ) though, it's quite addicting < BG >. Good luck! Bill – Triffet Animation Co.

I like my Epson too, Zack. I have my stegosaurous printed out and framed on a wall in my office, and it always gets admiring looks. The colors are stunning, and I usually render my 3DS stuff at 1500 x 1200 for an 8×10 image.
