#Micropolis needed !!
9 messages in this thread
I'm looking for a Micropolis hard drive to add to my Par …already have a 1.6
Micropolis 2217A. I would love another 1.6 gig … but will consider a 1.0 or
1.2 gig if it turns out that's all that's available. Will need it realatively
soon (next few weeks). Please E-mail me.
Also…..does anyone know what other drives are acceptable / compatible with
the PAR ??

ary,
You can use the Conner CFS 1275a 1.2 GIG).

Thanks for the response !
Do you happen to know if there is any cross-compatability issues by being used
with a Micropolis 2217A ?
Thanks again

Gary,
THe two drives attached to the PAR do not have to be the same.

Thanks again !
Last questions….promise! I know that these drives typically run hot…so
far my Micropolis hasn't given me any problems ….what might I expect with
adding another drive ? what precautions and/or steps can I take to avoid a
"melt down" ? And how much ANI playback can I expect out of one of these
Conner 1.2's ?
If anyone else is reading this thread… I'd appreciate a "real-world"
evaluation of a Conner 1.2 used for PAR . I just haven't heard anything about
them and would love to know what I might expect from it …for better or worse.
Thanks Kevin

Gary,
1.2 Gig hold approx. 10 minutes. An additional fan would be helpful,
depending on the mounting. The Conner runs cooler than the Micropolis drives.

Hi Gary,
Regarding the Conner 1.2GB drives… I've been using one for quite a
while, and it works great. It runs hot, but not as hot as the Microplolis
drives, I've heard.
I was able to edit my entire demo reel on it, about 3-4 minutes, and it
takes up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the drive currently. I can still get another
400-500 MB on at a very high block size (about 240), which is several more
minutes worth.
I've got 4 fans in my mid-tower. The original CPU and power supply
exhaust, plus an intake and exhaust fan at the front and back of the box. The
intake blows across all of my boards (PAR and Targa especially). It keeps air
moving pretty well, though not blowing directly on the Conner. Runs fine. I
know others with Micropolis drives tend to get a fan aimed right at the drive.

Thanks for the great info !

I already have a Micropolis 1.6 and I'm looking to add to it – thus the Conner
question. I'm going to be doing a 6 to 7 minute piece (live video, stills,
animation and sound) and know that I'd quickly run out of room when trying to
edit using Razor Pro.

Sounds like a great setup ! "Turbo-charged, chrome plated, with blowers on the
hood" <BG>
I have a full-tower that's getting pretty, well, "full". 1 gig internal, 3.5
flop, cd-rom, Monterey sound card, Par with TBC IV, network card Ya-Ta-Da
Ya-Ta-Da…I'm starting to get concerned – the back of my computer looks like a
science experiment. Is there a "fan kit" I can buy ?
