#amiga/ibm same keyboard?

I've gone for the ultimate bridgeboard, a 486DX tower that i have sitting next to me that shares my monitor. 🙂 now, the swtich box that i have for the monitor also has a keyboard port so i could switch keyboards. the problem is, when it try to use my amiga keyboard as the main keyboard that both machines share (i figured the ibm 102 keyboard would not work since it does not have the amiga key) my tower beeps like crazy when it tries to access the amiga keyboard. my question is this: can you get an amiga & ibm to share the same keyboard? is there an adaptor that i could use so the ibm sees an ibm keyboard?

What kind of switchbox do you use in order to share monitors between two machines? (Say, between two Amigas.)

i'm using a qvc switch box that will allow me to switch a vga monitor using DB15 pin setup between two computers (my ibm & amiga). it also has ports for a keyboard so that a keyboard could be shared between two computers. i'm curious if i could use it to share a keyboard between my ibm and amiga. as for the switch itself, i do not know if it is a break-before- connect or what.

Thanks a lot, Bob. I don't need this myself, but a friend has a real need to share a monitor between a 2000 and a 600. —Betty

Bob, I have a 1992 copy of AC's guide to the commodore Amiga that lists a device called KB-Talker that allows you to use an AT keyboard on any Amiga (Up to the 3000). It allows you to switch IBM and Amiga keymaps on the fly, no software involved.(According to the description). It listed for 59.95 then, but you should get the newest copy of AC's guide to make sure. Bob, as near as I can tell, the two are not even remotely convertible. There is a keyboard our there that will talk to both (the NorthGate OmniKey Ultra), but you still need to flip a dipswitch to make the conversion. BTW, I've got the same switch-box, so if you run into any info about allowing to use one keyboard with the other system, I'd love to hear it. I think the actual problem is the way keys are scanned, but I'm guessing on that. Brian bjbart@watserv.ucr.edu
