#PAR image cropped

All, I imported a 752×480 Targa file to the PAR, the image displayed on the NTSC moniter is cropped, it does not show the whole image. I just installed the PAR and it is possible that I do not have all the setting correct. Any (usefull) suggestions? Thanks, Scott

What you are experiencing is normal cutoff when you view your images on a video monitor. If you use the Alt-E function in 3DS it will show you the Safe Frame & Title Safe Fram. You can use this as a guide to the proper camera view you will need to render at to see the 'whole image on a video monitor. Refer to your 3ds Manual in the section on Pull Down Menus ( View Menus) for further explanation. Brendan G.

Brendan, Thanks for the reply, I'm semi familiar with the Safe-Frame feature but I'm totaly new to the PAR. 752×480 did seem to me to be out of proportion to a TV screen, I won't bother asking why I should bother rendering all the area that is cut off. Thanks, Scott

Scott, You have the right resolution. Are you rendering to a .851 aspect ratio? Just a thought. Ralph

Ralph, The image I imported to the PAR was a scanned photo,(no rendering involved). "Are you rendering to a .851 aspect ratio?" Should I be? Thanks, Scott

>> "Are you rendering to a .851 aspect ratio?" >> Should I be? Scott, The TV screen height to width is 4 by 3. Which makes 640 by 480 the correct ratio (1.0 aspect ratio). The PAR is at 752 pixels across so renderin to .851 aspect ratio is needed to keep things from being distorted. (752 x .851 = 640) So you'll have to do a little math to your scan. In Photoshop everything has a 1 aspect so you'll have to multiply the width by 1.175 (640 x 1.175 = 752) and plug in that number with proportion lock OFF. It will of course look stretched but will have the correct proportions for the PAR. Easier yet… just take your scan into 3DS as a background and render to 752 by 480 by .851 with background set to RESCALE in the render dialog box. Should take care of it. Ralph

Ralph, Thank you for the great info! I've been looking for info on aspect ratio since your last message, the info you just provided is going to be a great help. I have an industial video job to do this week and next, the PAR has arrived just in time and your info about aspect ratio is going to save me alot of promblems. thanks again, Scott P.S. Hi Scott, Just a quick note, my video monitor does not support the higher res of the PAR, so it crops the image a little. Are you viewing the image on a monitor that can support the PAR's resolution? Don't know if this applicable, but I thought I'd mention it. Paul
