big news everyone. get out a pencil and pad!! INCOMING! INCOMING!
Starting in mid July, Autodesk has a maintenance update to Autodesk Animator
Studio* known as "1c1".
The primary difference in Release 1c1 is the addition of Microsoft Video for
Windows 1.1e as well as support for QuickTime for Windows 2.0. Autodesk
Animator Studio R1c1 also includes numerous bug fixes and the addition of
relative macros. Beta testers of Release 1c1 have been very pleased with the
numerous improvements in performance as well.
Registered customers will automatically receive an update to their software on
CD-ROM directly from Autodesk. The update CD-ROM is supplied at no charge.
Please note there is no "patch" available to update the software.
To receive your 1c1 update, please fax your product registration card to
Autodesk, Inc. (fax 415-507-5304). You may also mail your registration card to
the following address:
Autodesk, Inc. ATTN: Software Registration 111 McInnis Parkway San Rafael, CA
94903-9846
Finally, many customers have been inquiring about support for pre-release Beta
versions of Windows 95. Neither Release 1 or the Release 1c1 update will run
properly on Beta Windows 95. However, when the commercially available final
release version of Windows 95 becomes available in late August 1995, Autodesk
will provide a special maintenance release of Autodesk Animator Studio that
runs on Windows 95. This update will also be provided free of charge.
>>Windows 95 becomes available in late August 1995, Autodesk will provide a

95…
Is this also the anticipated version that will run in NT?
>> Is this also the anticipated version that will run in NT? <<
nope. that comes later. however, we have had several folks report already that
they have been able to get AAS to run under latest version of NT3.51 (hey,
that'not a 0 after that decimal either, is it!) by changing the icon properties
of the Animator module from FLASH.EXE to ANIMATOR.EXE. worth a try if you have
3.51.

Hey Dave!
There's a bug in your announcement. Check out this NEW and more accurate info:
"To receive your 1c1 update, please fax your product registration
card to Autodesk, Inc. (fax 415-507-6123)"
Your message had an older FAX #. The FAX orders to the number you posted will
get forwarded, however.

Nik,
I sent a message to Dave, but – I STLL haven't received my !c! upgrade, though
I've been registered for months.
When will I get it?

I know something has gone wrong with our registration – you are not the first
person who has reported this. I have a list of all those who were sent c1
updates and you're not on the list, alas.
I have forwarded your message – but in the meantime, could you privately email
me your serial #, address and registration info? That way if they can't find
your registration in a timely fashion I'll just make sure you can get a copy
without having to wait.
Again, sorry.

John, just got back from siggraph, am collecting names of folks who havenm't
received it yet to find out next week what the holdup is. bear with me… we
work too. 🙂

We've just loaded the upgrade and it's a decided improvement performance-wise
BUT…if you're loading in a TGA stream of any significant length (10 seconds
or more) Windows is gonna make you wait.
It's still like watching paint dry, only a bit faster now. (Don't drink coffee
unless you lace it with a couple of Qualuudes.)

TGA's are tricky in behavior because they are so variable. small TGAs versus
large TGAs, varying color depths, varying sizes, organization of data (such as
location of alpha data), etc. ex: if each TGA was a 24-bit 5MB file, yeah,
Windows 3.1 version is going to move at a snail's pace. <g>

Dave,
I have had Animator Studio registered since the day I received it (shortly
after release) and I still haven't received the update to !c!. What gives? I
con't fax my registration in because I MAILED it to you AFTER I proved that I
had owned Animator Pro by sending the dealer my disk #2.
How long do I have to wait? This program is very troublesome.

John, your registration hasn't been mailed to "me"… i don't work for
Autodesk. what i can do is contact Autodesk and find out what gives. i don't
know. this week is siggraph week, no doubt the offices are emptier than usual.
i just got back in town and will be happy to address this next week.
fwiw, i apologize for the hassle on this.. it's not within my power to change
the past, and this points to a much larger problem at hand. i'll do what i can.
-dave
Thanks for your help. I sent my refistration info via mail to both you and
Nik.
