#FLC Compressor Driver

Hi everybody, I tried different compression schemes when I converted TGA into AVI using AS. So far, Autodesk FLC compressor gives me the smallest file size (on average). The AVI file quality is almost the best. My question is where I can find information on which files (flc compression driver) to distribute as well as if I am allowed to distribute the driver along with my AVI files, since not that many people have video for windows setup with FLC compressor installed. Appreciate any input. Thanks. Mike LIU

There is a file in the libraries called ASL_DIST.TXT which outlines Autodesk distribution policies on the FLC players and their support files. -Brian

Unfortunately, it does not contain any information related to the autodesk FLC compressor driver for avi play back. I did a bit more research and I found out that the driver I need to distribute is FLCCODEC.DRV. Because I used autodesk FLC compressor when I made the avi files, other people need to install this driver on top of the avi run-time player in order to view my avi files. The autodesk FLC compressor is not one of the default compressor drivers in the avi run-time player directly from Microsoft. Therefore, FLCCODEC.DRV has to be distributed with the avi files made using this compression scheme. Do you have any more info for this driver? Thanks again. Mike LIU

If you are including this in a commercial application, you probably want to clear the distribution of this file with Autodesk Legal. Here are some names to try: Brent Blackett – Animator Studio Product Manager Gail Bennet – Autodesk Legal Lisa Senake – Developer Relations. All can be reached at 415-507-5000 or firstname.lastname@autodesk.com. when you talk to them, make sure you let them know that you have seen the policy statement, and this issue is not covered in the letter., -Brian
