I would like to find out more about 3d studio and animation using computers. I am very new at this and I was hoping someone could tell me where to get started. Thanks Steve

Steve – Many of our members are off at the SIGGRAPH Conference in L.A. this week. One of the focal points was the announcment of a brand new version of 3DS. Read messages numbered 183984, 183989-991 in Section 2, Autodesk 3D Studio. They will give you some ideas of what 3D software can do. Anne

Steve, There is a file in one of the libraries that lists all the different books that have been published about 3D Studio. Try searching on the keyword "book". Also if there are any classes in my area.<< Autodesk has demotapes that are given out at SIGGRAPH, call 800-879-4233, they should be able to send you one. They should also be able to tell you about any authorized training centers in your area. 3D Studio or 3D Max as it's now called, has some very good manuals, they have a tutorial book that is over 700 pages. Don't worry too much, sometimes you just have to dive in and dog paddle til you can swim. I had no background in animation or video until 3.5 years ago. Regards…………….Rick – Technical Animations

Steve, Wherever you live, there is probably a 3dStudio user's group within a drive of an hour or so. Books are a good reference resource, and a good learning tool too if you can stand to do lots of tutorials (which I can't), but nothing helps more than human resources. At the user's groups you'll find people who are not only really knowledgable and well-connected, but generally cool as well. It's as much a social meeting as it is topic-directed. Ask in this forum where the nearest group is. Dan
