#3D Interior Design Needs
5 messages in this thread
TO ALL:
I need a CAD pkg. that I can use to present to clients, room size, dimensions,
etc. as well as place furniture in the rooms. I would also like to put wall
paper on the walls, carpet on the floors, different windows, curtains etc.
What can I use?!
Thanks for your help!

Although 3D Studio is not a "CAD" package but a professional rendering and
animation tool, it would be useful to create rendered perspectives, walk-thru's
and broadcast quality animations of anything you can design. To give
dimensions, plot floor plans and interior elevations you would require a more
traditional CADD package like AutoCad or a myriad of other choices. If
animation is not a requirement then you would be able to do all you ask with
AutoCAD and AutoVision (a product similar to 3D Studio but without all of the
animation functionality). To get a sampling of more CAD packages and opinions
I would suggest posting a message in the CADDVENA forum which handles several
CAD packages. To get more information on AutoCAD and some of the renderers
used with the product check out the ACAD forum.

I can't remember if the new AutoVision (the add-on renderer for
Autocad) does viewpoint animation (walk-thrus), but I think it might.
AutoVision produces great images, comparable to 3DStudio, but it's slow. A
faster renderer that does do walk-thru is Accurender by Robert McNeel & Assoc.
It's also an add-on to Acad. The quality of the images isn't quite as good as
AutoVision, but it's quick and easy to learn and use, and it's cheap.
I have done this type of visualization for an interior that had no less that 15
different color schemes and the modeling package I used was 3D STudio.

Thanks for the response. I'll try it out.
