OK, now listen to this. I am a mad guy who will prove that it is possible to write commercial games without needing a bunch of actors or a CRAY computer. I am looking for graphic artists and C or Assembler coders. The aim is to realize a project of mine: a high quality game on A1200 only HardDisk installable. I know it seems impossible, but I'm sure it is not. Personally I am a musician and an ex-AMOSPro coder. I am now reading the ROM Kernals books at high speeds for C programming, so I could code the project myself. But it will take some months for me to master those damned librairies, and anyway two coders are better than two. As for the gfx… A five-years child could do better than me! So I urgently need one or two graphic artists. Then other projects could follow. But let's be clear: we won't do this for money. I mean, it's not a job. Don't believe you're gonna work for a company like Psygnosis or whatever. But of course, if we finish the game, and we manage to sell it or to put it on shareware, the earnings will be EQUALLY shared. So don't be afraid and answer me. You can also give your advice about the thing (Am I mad or not?).

yes, you are probably mad 😉 I don't know whether you will be able to achieve what you want with C for a start, and depending on what you want to do, the OS may be too much of an overhead as well. What kind of game did you have in mind? And why a1200 only, I assume you mean AGA ( in which case the rom kernals are going to be a little lacking, they only cover up to ECS). Depending on what you want to do, you might not even need to go AGA only, although an update AGA version _CAN_ be good. It depends on the game you want to produce, I get the feeling that you have thought about that. My dream at the moment is to produce a software video-cd decoder, I think I will have to wait until I get an 060 though 🙂 I suppose I am a little mad too…….. Thanks for listening 🙂 Glad to discuss this anytime Phill

Phillip Thanks for answering. Let me answer your questions. I've chosen C because it's a real pain to make something big and well structured with Assembler. Anyway, I've also learn a bit of Assembler. The reasons I stopped are: 1.It is exceedingly confusing 2.There's a huge lack of documentation… The game itself will be a futuristic-ambiented fast-paced action game with toons of cinematics. Take Heart Of Darkness (on PC… argh!) and add that Blade Runner feeling I like so much!!! It will be A1200/A4000 only coz' of AGA. I need toons of colors… But we could try to convert it to A500 too… later. ROM Kernals help me to learn basics of C, but I've got documentation to acceed to AGA functions (aha!). If we manage to get in contact with enough people, I'm sure the game we'll be a massive HIT. No joking. I'll contact you later for more details. Anyway it seems like you're not a beginner with coding, so I'll tell you what in a month(I'm taking some holidays. I'll be back in August). We'll discuss on how we should get organised to build the whole thing. See ya: Diego(Carl's my father.I used his CS to send the message…)

Don't expect too much from C, parts of pc games are written in C as they tend to have excessive processor power and the time critical things are written in assembler. I would be interested in your aga docs though 🙂 Phill

Phillip, It will surely run faster than on AMOSPro, and I'll be able to access AGA. Anyway, if I could find an Assembler coder, it would be great. I'm writing these lines one day before living. I think you could help us making this project. I need to know your programming level, which computer do you have, and where do you live. I'll receive your answer in September, so don't hold your breath waiting my answer. Anyway, I'll try to keep in touch with you. See ya: Diego

I live in the uk, currently have an a500 & a1200. I do c programming on pc's and amiga. A while ago I did 68000 programming, bit rusty though 🙂 To be honest, I don't get as much time as I used to do programming 🙁 I will help out if I can though 🙂 Phill

Carlo, I'm not a programmer, but I am a graphic artist. You mention that you're aiming this at the A1200 only (why?). I'm currently running an A2000/040 under OS 3.1. I understand this is not a high powered commercial product, but I still may be interested. Drop me a line (Cmail) and we can discuss what you want and whether I can help. AGA-only? Why not (like BIIING! f.ex.) with AGA in mind but with an option to get EHB graphics, too? But I am definitely for a HardDisk-only game. I would suggest do not restrict yourself to anything but 1 Meg Chip and 68020 (with or without coprozessor?). Perhaps you should also expect at least 1 Meg Fast RAM — just to speed some things up a little bit . . . You know, I every time I am filling out my lottery ticket I am swearing that if I am winning this time, I am going to hire a software company to write THE game for the Amiga 😉 Christian
