Yikes! I hadn't noticed (don't visit too many other forums). I guess the more
people, the more problem people too.

We are expecting that things will clean up a great deal once school starts
again. With all the hype about the 'Net' the kids have been having lots of fun
with their parents' accounts this summer – or so it seems.
These things seem to be happening more on the music, CB, HSX, and entertainment
forums than in the technical ones. I don't go there much, either, but I've
been reading a discussion about the problems. They are not nearly so bad here
as on some networks that encourage anonymity through silly handles, but there
is enough of it that some CIS sysops are concerned and are working on it.

Hackers, bad behaviour, and just general anti-social behaviour has
become rampant on the Net and as you noted in CB. <sigh> Part of the
problem is the so-called "Blister Pack" accounts, where troublemakers
can open a dozen or more free (for the first month) accounts, and get
away with stuff. There are several known troublemakers whose monthly
ejection totals are now numbering in the hundreds.
Two things could be done to alleviate (to some extent) this sort of
problem from existing here on CIS: stop handing out free accounts blindly
(account accountability, if you would) and better awareness of the
need for keeping one's password secure. As we keep reminding newbies
on CB "Never EVER give your password or .ini file to ANYONE, regardless
who they claim to be".
If these things are done, the extent of the "troubles" would decline
through sheer account attrition.
Just my 2 cents (1.47 cents?) worth.

I agree with that, Stuart – and it also helps when people use their own names.
Most people who are into bad behavior are hiding behind anonymous 'handles'
when they do it. I never heard of anyone pulling such things when their own
names were attached to the account.
