#Quantum Failings

I had a similar problem with my Maxtor 7120S drive (not spinning up at all,
spinning up only some time after booting, spinning up/down at odd times). I
have a fairly loaded machine (A2000) with flicker fixer, SCSI host adaptor,
graphics board (Merlin w/4MB), 16bit FastRAM expansion w/4MB, Multi I/O board,
and CSA Mega Midget Racer with 68030-33, 68882-20, 512K SRAM and 4MB DRAM. The
problem got worse once I installed a new hard disk (Quantum LPS240) in this
system (the Quantum, BTW, behaved perfectly well). Now I have all my SCSI gear
moved to an external SCSI mini tower case with its own PSU. I have 3 hard disks
(Maxtor, LPS240 and my new Quantum Lightning 730S drive) and a CD-ROM drive in
there and they all behave perfectly. So I guess the power supply must have been
the culprit. You DO have a separate PSU for the A590, do you?

Yep! the A590 is powered by its own PSU, as is the HD8+ (GVP's), Although, I
did have a better responce from the GVP Controller. It managed to keep the
drive spinning long enough for Fastprep to tell me that the drive type wasn't
what is should have been, then the drive stopped spinning.
