#Monitor Modes Missing

I received a call from a user last night who has an unusual problem. He has an
Amiga 4000 with a 1960 monitor, running AmigaDOS 3.0. When he selects
ScreenMode preferences, his only selections are NTSC related. When he first got
his system, he had all of the Monitor types displayed, but now only NTSC is
available. (Yes, I had him check to see if the others just weren't visible
because they were scrolled out of the window. This was not the case.)
First, I had him list devs:monitors, and he has all of the usable monitor types
in the drawer. (NTSC, PAL, DBLNTSC, DBLPAL, Super72) Second, I had him read his
startup-sequence line by line, it's unchanged from the released version. (The
check for Monitors is in place. I had him execute the "List" to the screen and
it found all of the monitor types which I listed above.)
Several years ago, I ran into the same problem on my 4000, but I don't remember
how I solved it. Does anyone have any suggestions? My own suspicion is that
something he installed overwrote a library or handler file, but I don't know
what to check for.

Don't know if this will help, but checking in my devs/monitors I also have
VGAonly, which I seem to remember is necessary for some arcane reason.

I had him try with VGAOnly, but that didn't change anything. <sigh> I
know that there is a special test in the startup that looks for VGAOnly, but I
am not sure what that's all about.

he needs to coby them again from his 3.0 storage disk…HE might have had the
disk installed when he first had it

One of the first things I had him do was copy the Monitor types from the
master installation disks. He added a Syquest to his system at about the time
that they disappeared, and I am wondering if that may have had something to do
with the problem.

maybe those types went to the wrong disk
get quicktool.lha inhis amiga
then run getqinfo <drives> saverequest
then run qpop
then lt should tell you where that file is hiding

The files didn't disappear, it's the modes that disappeared from the ASL
graphics modes requester. The files were all still there, and I had him replace
them with copies of the originals from the release disk just in case they had
gotten corrupted. Didn't change anything.
