#3DS MAX & Net Rendering

…Just a couple of questions regarding Network rendering and the forthcoming
3D Studio MAX for Windows NT. I realize that 3DS MAX is not available until Q1
1996, but any answers to the following questions would be appreciated:
How will Network rendering be handled with MAX?
Will it be necessary for all Network PCs to be running Windows NT to create a
render farm?
Will it become necessary to purchase slave rendering licenses for these
additional workstations?
Is it possible to use a combination of Windows NT and DOS workstations?
How much RAM will be necessary for PCs using 2 or more processors?

1) In a similar was that 3DS/DOS handles network rendering.
2) Basically, yes. The jury is still out on whether or not Win95 will
ever make a decent host for a rendering slave.
3) Nope.
4) Nope.
5) Depends upon how big the scene is… the second processor doesn't
increase the RAM requirement.

There are a few things Autodesk has stated at Siggraph, these I will pass on to
you. These are my interpretations of what I heard, so beware! :^)

Same as for DOS now.

Yes.

No, same as DOS now.

No, NT only.

Same as one processor. The two processors just allow it to run faster, they
don't take up more memory.

Thanks for the prompt response, Greg!. I received another response from "-G" at
Yost group that pretty well mirrored your info.
Although I may not have phrased my question as acurately as I could have, I was
curious if more RAM was necessary if several processors in a multiple-CPU PC
were assigned separate rendering tasks.
