If I have a 3d object with a 2d background that is say of a terrain, and I want the 3d object to cast shadows that look correct with the 2d background, how should I proceed to accomplish this task? Is there any referance in the manual or in any of the third party books? I've tried making everything white except for the shadows and using negative alpha but no joy. -=Mike=-

Mike, >> I want the 3d object to cast shadows that look correct with the 2d background << A local forum member, Martin Foster, has a chapter in the "3D Special Effects" book on doing just what you want. The book has many other chapters of tips and tricks, it's more than worth the price. -Mike

I believe some good shadow tricks are discussed in the 3D Studio Special Effects book. Martin Foster wrote about a technique to do exactly what you're looking for. – Dave
