#Win NT or Win 95

Hello everyone;
I am now looking to upgrade my Operating System Software. What would be a
better solution Windows NT 3.1 or Windows 95? Also does 3DS4 run under both?
Which one does it run better under? I understand that Autodesk has moved
towards Windows NT, So I am thinking to go this way for my future upgrade of
3D-Studio. My computer system is an Intel 486 DX2 50 with 20Mb Ram and about
700Mb hard disk space, CD Rom, 44Mb Syquest, 250 IDE Tape Backup. Will I gain
from this change. (I am thinking of getting the P6 when it comes out)

I would recommend going to winnt. It is more stable and a full 32bit OS. I
use both WINNT and I was a beta tester for Windows 95. I like the new look
and feel of 95 but NT is the one for me. I am running NT at home on an ALPHA
box and it screams with Elastic Reality.

If you are using 3DS with the above configuration, for now, you probably
should stick to DOS and Windows 3.1 for the best performance.
If you switch to another operating system, NT would be the only choice if you
wanted to use 3DS MAX, the DOS versions of 3DS will not run under NT nor will
MAX run under Win95. Switching to NT will require 16 megs to run the operating
system alone and then you need to add what you are currently using on top of
that, in other words 64 megs would be a good place to start. Then you will need
to be using a P90 to have a system that will be equal to what you are working
on now.
Another suggestion would be to install WinNT 3.5x as a dual boot just to get
it under your belt, so when MAX is released you have some background about NT.

I'm running 95 at work and NT 3.51 at home. While I like the 95 interface, NT
runs noticably faster. On my P120 with 64 Mb RAM, AutoCAD13 loads, ready to
run, in FOUR seconds.
I originally installed NT 3.5 on a 486DX50 with 32 Mb RAM. It loaded kind of
slow, but ran better than regular Win 3.11. If you are going to stick with the
486, get the best video card you can, because that was the main bottleneck in
my old system.
