#CloseWindow
15 messages in this thread
I am trying to learn how to use Intuition. I followed the example in
chapter 2 called "Simple OpenWindow() program". I wrote the program with
Amiga's Macro Assembler. Everything executes as it should up to the call
to CloseWindow. A simple window is opened. The problem is that the
CloseWindow call never returns to my application. The entire screen blanks
and the system goes off into space. I set the stack to 16000 before
running the program.
This is the status of the registers prior to the call:
Listing of window "Status":
D0=00000000 D1=0001AAC0 D2=00000FA0 D3=00000FA8
D4=00000007 D5=0000002B D6=0000003B D7=0001EF14
A0=0000083E A1=0001AAC0 A2=00009440 A3=00032D14 <- $83E is the pointer to
A4=000415F0 A5=00FF4D3C A6=00003DA4 A7=00044C08 the window returned from
PC=032DFC N=0 Z=0 V=0 C=0 X=1 the call to OpenWindow.
JSR -$48(A6)
Breakpoint
Listing of window "Memory":
032DF4 MOVE.L A6,-(A7)
032DF6 MOVEA.L $3FFF0,A6
032DFC JSR -$48(A6) <- This looks good to me. $3DA4 is the
032E00 MOVEA.L (A7)+,A6 IntuitionBase and -$48 is the offset
032E02 CLR.L D1 of CloseWindow.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Joe )-:
Joe, what debugger gave you those window dumps? I haven't yet gotten a real
debugger (I have a prerelease WACK, oh wow). That one looks interesting. Any
other comments on it? (Sorry I don't have any help on your troubles with
CloseWindow…) – Bela
The debugger I am using is:
MetaScope: The Debugger
From Metadigm, Inc.
19762 MacArthur Blvd.
Suite 300
Irvine, CA 92715
(714) 955-2555
It is a a full blown symbolic debugger with multiple window. Comparable to
Microsoft's Symdeb.exe (if you are familiar with that other computer).

Bela,
The following is from the back cover of the MetaScope manual:
Metascope gives you everything you've always wanted in an application
program debugger:
o Memory Windows
Move through memory, display data or disassembled code code,
freeze to preserve display and allow restoration.
o Other Windows
Status windows show register contents and program state with freeze
and restore; symbol, hunk, and breakpoint windows list current
definitions.
o Execution Control
Breakpoints with repetition counts and conditional expressions;
trace for all instructions or subroutine level, both single-step
and continuous execution.
o Full Symbolic Capability
Read symbols from files, define new ones, use anywhere.
o Powerful Expression Evaluation
Use extended operator set including rationals, all assembler number
formats.
o Direct to Memory Assembler
Enter instruction statements for direct conversion to code in memory.
o and More!
Log file for operations and displays, modify/search/fill memory, etc.
MetaScope executes as a Command Line Interface (CLI) command, and loads your
program as though it were being run from the CLI.
The above only gives a glimpse into MetaScope's capability. Their cryptic
and terse remarks may make no sense for someone who has not read the
manual. So if you have any questions about the above do not hesitate to
ask.
Thanks! I've seen the ads, but first-hand user commentary is always more
useful. I'll try to get a copy. – Bela
