#CAD programs

After looking at the several CAD packages for the Amiga, I borrowed one from a
friend of mine. As an engineer who uses a professional CAD package (ANVIL
4000) at work, I was pretty dissappointed by what I found. I seems that many
people think that a drawing program that treats objects as entities instead of
pixels is a CAD program. Not so!
Does anybody know of a program that lets you modify entities after drawing
them? (trimming to another line, etc..) What I would like is a program that is
similar to ANVIL, or CADAM, etc, i.e., an engineering type professional CAD
program. Oh, by the way, I am an aeronautical engineer, not an electirical
engineer. CAD applications differ for these different fields.
Any input is welcome.

What CAD program did you use for the Amiga? I`ve been thinking about
getting one and want to know what to avoid.

I don't know if you were using Draw Plus but….
1. Draw Plus allows the modification of any object at any time.
2. You can use a hook tool to change the length of a line, or
use stats to do this numerically.
3. Draw Plus has associative/automatic dimensions, if you attach a dimension
to a group (build a part) the dimension will recalculate if
you resize the object.

If you were using Draw Plus …. PLEASE feel free to write up a list
of your "must haves", we are allways looking for ways to improve
this product. A 68881 math chip version is currently in testing and
offers increased accuracy and runs several times faster.

No, it wasn't Draw Plus, it was Dynamic CAD. As I ssaid in another message, it
is difficult to fully evaluate a program with only a few days of playing
around. (Yes, believe it or not, I did NOT copy DC!! There are a few honorable
hackers around…). How does Draw Plus compare with commercial professional
engineering systems? (i.e., ANVIL, CADAM, etc?

Draw Plus is on a par with the Macintosh type CAD products. I would
say that it's a little more powerfull than Mac Draft. (Actually I'd
say alot more in some areas). Draw Plus is a 2D system supporting
an object based drafting system.
Types of objects: polylines, circles, ellipses (rotatable), text,
dynamic dimensions, splines, arcs, and groups (groups can contain
groups).
Types of editing: size, distort, clone, hook (metamorphic changes for
polylines), rotate, stats (complete numerical control).
It can support any plotter that uses ASCII commands of the
form text x text y text <CR>
text can be set to a null string.
Multiple windows, multiple drawings, and background plotting.

I am very interested in what you would want as the "10 most
desired features" because I think we will need to expand this
software for the type of application you are using it for,
