Rick, I'm looking for a decent (read $150.00) microphone for the following uses- vocals, recording acoustic guitar and banjo, and taking samples with the Amiga. I realize you're supposed to have a different microphone for every use, but I can't afford that now. This is for a low-ball home studio. Do you have any suggestions? I asked this question on the midi forum but was told that any mic under $500 stinks. Bernie at MAO sells several different kinds but he couldn't offer any advice. I understand the basic differences between dynamic; condensor; ribbon mics and how they operate, but not which would be best. I don't have phantom power. Any advice, preferences, gut feelings, random thoughts, or outright lies would be very helpful! Thanks, George

Geez, George, I really can't help you on that one, except to say that "any mic under $500 stinks" sounds to be either a very pristine or a very narrow minded attitude. The MIDI forum isn't the prime place to ask. Try the MusicForum (section 0 most likely) or, better, the BPForum. Explain the situation as you did to me. I'm sure some of the pros over there would be delighted to give you the benefit of their wisdom. Sorry I couldn't help, but when I was in broadcast and recording I always just used whatever mic was handy and provided by the station. <Shrug> Rick
