I just purchased Diga and would like to switch over to it all the time (I
have been using Mousetalk on a GS which has only an buffer Most of my time
on-line is spent leaving messages and answering them. I am a new user of the
Amiga 500 and deplorably unfamiliar with most of the machine commands. Among
others, here are my questions: 1) Can I save the buffer to a formatted disk in
my external drive and, if so, how (or where is it in the manual…have tried
the save stuff with no luck; 2) Can I create message files offline without
quitting the program? (It seems from what I read in the manual that I would
have to use notepad from the workbench, then convert that to a file, then
transmit it once on line. This seems laborious. I hope that there is another
way.) Any info is appreciated. I don't look forward to switching cabels back
and forth. Would rather stick with the Amiga.

First, congratulations for getting the Amiga!
With Diga! you can open the buffer with a "left Amiga O" and close it
with a "left Amiga N". You can also SIZE the buffer (important!), view the
buffer, clear the buffer and set a "loop mode". There are keyboard commands for
these things, and they are also available under the "CAPTURE" menu.
To save the buffer, look under the "PROJECT" menu, then "SAVE" and then
"BUFFER". The keyboard command for this is "ALT S".
To use Diga! and an editor at the same time, you use the multitasking
capablility of the Amiga. First, "Click" on NotePad to get it running. Next
click on the gadget in the upper right hand corner to get you back to the
WorkBench. Now click on Diga!'s Icon. Now both programs are running at the same
time. Normally, the gadgets in the upper right corner of the window are for
switching between programs, but you can't "get back" to Diga! using them. So,
when you want to switch back to Diga!, you must use the Left Amiga M (left
Amiga N takes you out of Diga!). Try it a few times and it will make sense.
When you compose a message, save it to disk. Compu$erve has two
"editors". One of them allows UPLOADING of messages. This is the one to use.
Just upload the message using Diga!'s "TRANSFER/SEND FILE". All of this can be
done while "on-line", or off-line without exiting either program.
If you want to do any of this from the CLI, you must use RUN with the
first program. For example "RUN Notepad", then you can start Diga!.
You might want to get a copy of TxEd. It also works with Diga! and is
smaller than Notepad.

Just select your buffer save to drive DF1: (hit the DF1: button on the
save requester). You can use ANY text file to create messages, just
use ASCII file transfer to upload it. TxED and NotePAD provide the
ADDITIONAL ability to transfer directly into the capture buffer,
but Diga! can send any text file via. ASCII send. Good luck.
