I have an amiga computer with ONLINE terminal prgm. My problem is when I
try to get online I keep get-ting host name host name host name syntas after
host name host name and this goes on and on, on workbench
preforance I set 300 baud,even parity, 7 write bit,7 recieve bit, handshaking
I've tried all,one stop bit. And on the online prgm I have same as above with
flow on,. I cant figure out whats going on. Seems like compuserve just keeps
sending. Any ideas, my modem is an avatex 1200, switches are factory
set,down,up,down,up,down,down, down,down.

Bruno, set all the dip switches on your Avatex to the UP position.

No good Marlene, I tried it and nothing happens. I get all the way to when
the ONLINE prgm gives me a CONNECT prompt, and then it just keeps repeating
host name. I just can't seem to figure this one out. I just ran out of ideas.

Bruno, have you been able to connect to any other BBS's with Online?
Maybe Don Curtis can help you figure this one out – I'll leave him a msg
pointing him to your problems.

No Marlene, I only use commpuserve. I'M like in limbo I don't know if its
the computer serial port or the ONLINE prgm or the modem. Lucky I still have my
old C64 to fall back on. Thanks for youur help. I'll be waiting for the sysop
you mentioned.

Bruno,
It sounds like you have a circular script file. That is, a script file
that is looking for a prompt…that it's not getting and therefore you are
entering a CR or some other command unknown to CIS, thus going to the host name
prompt. You should enter a Control-C after CONNECT or you shound have the
script reply CIS after getting the host name prompt.
