I FOT THE MIMETICS INTERFACE TO WORK WITH THE AMIGA 500!!!!!!!!!! (Actually I didn`t FOT anything I "GOT" it to work.) I`ll tell you how and why I did it. First, as I said in a previous message when I called Mimetics they said that they THOUGHT that you could probably just hook it up to the 12 volt supplies of the 500 and just put a 1.5 K resitor in line with the MIDI out connector. They didn`t seem to sure. Your information on the 6N138-it being an opto-coupler I decided that maybe that wasn`t sucha good idea. In working with different optos I discovered that some are quite picky about they`re supply voltage. Anyway-THIS IS WHAT I DID. I took the 12V and -12 V supplies of the 500 and hooked them up to a Zenner diode circuit (drawing a constant 10MA each-no worry about the 500s power supply there) then I further dropped the voltage with with 1 1N914 in line with both pins 21 and 14 of the Mimetics interface. <by the way the Zenners were 5.1 volts>. This left me with 4.5 Volts + and -, a little less than spec but better than too high. Actually, the 1N914s probably weren`t needed afterall it would only be .1V over, but I`ll leave that experiment to someone else. It works like a charm. 2 resistors, 2 Zenners and 2 diodes were all that was needed. I put them in the gender changer that is required when using the Mietics with the 500. Rick, you said that you didn`t have the schematics for the 500 or the pin outs. I`ll gladly photocopy them and send them to you if you`ll E-plex me an adress to send them to.
