Your VD1 digitizer, is it commercially available? If so, can you please
give me more info. I'm wondering if you can achieve Digi-View quality with
the digitizer. As for LIVE! compared w/ Digi-View I find that Digi-View has
the quality, whereas LIVE! has the speed. Where does your VD1 come in ?
Joe either in the DL's here or in AmigaVendor DL4, download a couple of the
pictures done with the VD1. As with Digi-View, the quality of the output
is mostly determined by the quality of the incoming signal. It's the old
"GIGO" routine. The pictures of the Orange, Trumpet, Waterfall – were
digitized from running tape from a Sony EDV-9500 Beta unit which retails
for about $3500. The Roger Rabbit pics I put a couple of days ago we taken
from a broadcast CBS special the other evening. The small amount of
herringbone pattern in the Roger pics is from a marginal cable signal. As
for availability, we are just currently waiting for a RAM shipment which
should be in the next few weeks.
I'm a Digi-VIew owner, who is looking for a purchase in the LIVE!
department. I like LIVE! due to it's "live" look, and how other software
houses are starting to develop software that interacts with LIVE! (Such as
Fantavision, Invision, etc ). LIVE! is also price effective, costing less
than other framegrabbers such as Progressive Peripherials FrameGrabber
(Which looks impressive from what I gather)…
Joe – To be honest the cost to the end user is rarely a consideration when
we design hardware. Our main concern is the final results. We have been
in development for about 5 years, and have always created products We
wanted for ourselves first. It it turns out that the product is also
wanted by consumers in a certain market, we then go through a cost
reduction process, to enable us to produce it in quantity. Our VD1 is
almost twice the retail cost of the Progressive unit, but we fell it is
much better.
We also try not to get too concerned about other packages supporting or not
supporting our formats, as we elect to provide any and all formats and file
descriptions which we feel are not of a proprietary natrure to PD. At
$1000 for the VD1 we currently have pending orders for all we can produce
and no ads have even been placed yet. So we have no concern. Even if we
decided not to market the product, I have one so I'm Happy! (large grin!).
