#Dream DTP System
2 messages in this thread
If dreams could come true..or, maybe you already run a "dream" Amiga desktop
publishing system.
I'm doing an article for a new desktop publishing magazine and I'd like to find
out what Amiga users perceive as the ultimate Amiga rig for desktop publishing.
I'd certainly appreciate hearing your votes for the absolute best possible DTP
system Amiga can muster, including computer, monitor, DTP software, printer,
mouse and any other peripheral or add-on you think would contribute to a
top-of-the-line system.
And don't hesitate to support your votes with commentary!
Results of this survey will be posted here.
Thanks very much – Peter.
Peter,
From your question, you are not familiar with the Amiga system. What magazine
will you be publishing in?
Presently, the most capable DTP program for the Amiga is Professional Page by
Gold Disk Software. They will have Professional Draw released in October which
will be similar to Adobe Illustrator. Soft Logik has been promising their
program Publishing Partmner Professional for months. Its specs sound somewhat
more extensive than Professional Page, but since Publishing Partner Pro has not
been released, it is still just vaporware. I use an Apple Laserwriter II NT for
output – but for proofing only. Final output goes to a Linotronic 300 at 2500
dpi resolution. I am using the standard Amiga monitor in interlace mode which
is ok, the ideal display device would be a Flicker Fixer board and a Multisync
monitor or CBM's new 1000×800 monochrome monitor. I import drawings using
DigiView and clean up the images with the graphic tools in Professional Page
and with Deluxe Paint II. There are other better "paint" programs now but I
haven't tried them for this purpose. Scanners are coming for the machine. There
are some recent messages from ASDG about their new scanning programs on the
AmigaVendor forum and on the AmigaTech forum.
Good luck with your article. Let me know if there are other questions that I or
others can answer.
