The only thing I've heard is they're out of business completely. No other
details than that.
I called them last Friday to ask about these rumors. They said there was
no truth to the rumors. They have severed ties with one of their outside
developers, so I suppose these rumors could be coming from them. They said
that new versions of Audio Master (as in III), Sonix, and Draw 2000 were in
the works, as well as a new product for the holiday season to be announced
later. Apparently the reports of their demise are premature.
Why is it that people will spread these rumors without bothering to spend
50 cents or whatever to check them out? This type of gossip can be very
damaging to developers. All it takes is one nasty widespread tale and they
can be hurt beyond repair. Software development is not a secure field. It
doesn't take much to mess things up. As a SysOp, whose statements are
often taken as gospel by users, don't you think you have a responsibility
to investigate these things before passing them along? I know that all you
said was "The only thing I've heard is they're out of business completely",
but I am sure that many people will probably not remember the
qualifications but only that "a SysOp on CompuServe said that Aegis went
out of business."
Craig, one small request. It is trivial, but the [ in [ICD makes your name
not show up in Whap. Thanks.
I have done some investigation, and I've been listening to some of
the industry folks that have been very reliable in the past. One of the
main things that the reports have sighted are that Aegis is telling that to
people on the phone, while they're in the process of getting rid of
everything. The third party developers of at least two Aegis products I
can think of have not been paid, and the 800 order line # has been
disconnected.
They've been seen selling off furniture on their front lawn, and have sold
off a lot of product disks (without the software on 'em). (Someone told me
that Leo Schwab posted that this info on another network, and I've
confirmed he did).
Having been a sysop for a number of years, I don't take this sort of thing
lightly, I did check it out.
Well, Steve, you didn't check it out very well. Aegis isn't out of
business. We don't have a front lawn. The company is moving and changing
some of the structure of its business, but there is no intention for the
company to leave the Amiga market or to sell off everything… as I've seen
posted up here. Rumors and comments from developers or ex-staff should be
considered just that – rumors. If you have a problem with service or
support from Aegis, just pick up the phone and call. We'll be glad to help

I'm sorry for any inconvenience to you or Aegis that this thread has
caused. However, with msgs like the following, from high profile people in
the Amiga world, it is not suprising that such a rumor should persist.

I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but the fact is that Aegis is dead. They
recently sold off several hundred product disks (just the disks) for $0.25
each. They were also seen selling their office furniture on the front

is attempting to abscond with Aegis's remaining assetts by selling them to
a new outfit he's created called "7 Day Software" at prices far below

If that's your official line, I retract what I said. I suggest you get the
word out, because this rumor has persisted for over two weeks on other
networks and no one's heard a peep out of Aegis until now. Hearing on the
nets about this with *no* word from Aegis has perpetuated the rumor.

They've been hearing these rumors as well. Perhaps they'd be interested
that Aegis has finally spoken out.
Get on the nets and stamps those rumors out. This is the last place that
has posted anything about it….it's been other places for weeks.
Steve I heard the developers got the rights to there software back. If this
is true then there are some nice pieces of software looking for a home. My
company is small but we distribute 4 pieces of software and 1 piece of
hardware. We are also working on several other deals. I would like to talk
to some of these people to see what is on their minds (if all this is
true). Any ideas??? BTW, my company is Micro Momentum, Inc.
If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears (some people even told me this!)
