When using lens flare with 3ds rev.3 we have experienced system lockup if we bring a lens flare close to a camera (so it is full frame) we are rendering on a DX2-66 with 16 meg of ram & plenty of hard drive space,,, are there upgrades coming out for the ipas to be fully compatible with rev3 The system also locks up if we set the flare, ring, rays slider too large,,, any advice,,,also any new ipas in the works,,,

You may not be locked up but just rendering. I've seen certain large settings for lens flare and glow and hilite add up to 3000% increase to rendering time.

As Don said, if you make a full-screen flare, it can exponentially increase rendering time to where it may "seem" as if the computer has locked up. I'd keep the flare's to 1/2 screen size or less for efficient rendering. Re new IPAS, there'll be an update to the Disk#1 IXP's hopefully by the end of February. They'll support gamma and 64-bit color/alpha data. We're working on 2 sets of IPAS3 routines that'll be available this spring that will show off the tightly-coupled power of the IPAS3 interface. One set will feature a very capable velocity editing KXP along with a number of other useful routines (like deformation modeling using image files), and the other set will focus on new particle systems (like smoke and fire) along with free-form deformation tools.
