Hi folks, My Amiga has been misbehaving lately, and I'm hoping someone around here might be able to help me track down what's wrong before I either take the machine in for service or try to repair it myself. Here's my system: an Amiga 2000 (rev 4.5 motherboard, upgraded from a 4.1) with 1 meg Agnus, running AmigaOS 1.3.2; an A2620 accelerator with 4 megs 32-bit RAM; an 8-UP expansion RAM board populated with 4 megs 16-bit RAM; and a HardFrame harddisk interface driving a Quantum 80S HD. Here are the symptoms: 1) The machine won't reboot. Giving it the three-fingered salute just sends it off to NeverNeverLand. The Caps Lock key blinks to indicate that the reset signal has been sent, the screen clears, and then…nothing. No power light dimming, no screen color changing, nada. Very interestingly, if the machine _crashes_ it then resets just fine! In fact, that's how I'm working around the problem right now: when I want to reboot I run a little program that deliberately invokes the guru. 8^) The machine will only coldstart when it really is cold; turning it off for a few minutes after it fails to reboot doesn't do any good. Also, removing and/or rearranging expansion boards has no effect on the problem. 2) The battery backup for the realtime clock has failed. The battery has probably died (this is an old 2000…I've had it since early September 1987), but its failure coincided _exactly_ with the first occurance of the reboot problem. Strange…. I'd sure appreciate any insight and advice into this y'all can give me. Thanks. -Dave
