#Printer cable

Need a question answered for me from some of you 2000 owners. A friend of
mine just purchased a 2000 and he tried a gender changer on his A1000
printer cable then hooked up the printer. Result = 0. I thought I had heard
that you couldn't get away with that but I can't seem to find any reference
material. Should that have worked, and if not, can he use his IBM printer
cable for it? Please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks……Jamie
Jamie,
No…simply using a gender change won't work. Not only is the
gender changed…but so are some of the pins. To be exact, pins 14,15 and
16 have been moved to pins 23,24 and 25 (and vice versa).
You can use a standard IBM printer cable with the A2000 for most
applications…for the rest of the applications…take that IBM cable and
clip the wire to pin #14.
Don
Jamie, tell him to get a standard IBM printer cable for the 2000. Some of
the pinouts are different from the A1000,but the standard cables are cheap.
I bought one for under $5 just recently. If his printer insists on double
spacing everything with the new cable, he can stop that by pulling out pin
14. Some printers require that; others do not.
