Sorry for the delay in replying. Actually, I had entirely forgotten that I
had entered the note and I do not log in very often. I also cannot locate
the original question.
The Rainbow sequences are listed in the owners manual. As the previous
reply says all the VT series from VT52 upwards are ANSI compatible, but the
200 series on supports more sets.
At work I have an excellent description of character set standards, I will
see if the author will let me upload it.
The basic mechanism is that you use escape sequences to designate sets into
G0 G1 G2 or G3 and Shift In/Shift out control codes (the ctrl codes
mentioned) to invoke these into GL and GR. GL maps to the lower 128 codes
of the 8 bit byte space and GR to the upper half. ECMA (European Computer
Manufactures Association) maintains a registry of code sets for ISO and
assigns each one an escape sequence for designating into G sets. There are
also many private code sets. The RAinbow supports Digital Multinational
Code set, which is private but is almost a close subset of te international
standard ISO 8859 (Latin 1)

Sorry, Tim – Yer message must be for someone else. I've been using the VT
sequences for about 12 years on PDPs, VAXs, and my 'Bow. (See my StarTrek
game in the new-uploads area … it uses VT100 sequences from BASIC to
create windows and animated torpedos when you shoot at the Klingons!) I
seem to remember this thread from a while back, but I think the original
requestor already got the same info from another member; I might have
provided some tips as well, which could be how you got my ID. Anywho, have
a better one!
