#CG Font Mystery Solved

I just got off SL's BBS and read that the missing CG font characters problem is caused by a buffer set up by the CG code for rendering the characters. When the buffer overflows the character is not printed! SL is aware of the problem and working on a fix. BTW I have just uploaded three new import drivers posted by SL for PgS 2.0 users. -Paul-

Paul, thanks for the info on the 'missing characters'…. that explains why simple letters like 'I' and 'L' printed, but others didn't (I'd assume they need a larger buffer?)… Also, thanks for the drivers. I'm STILL trying to get on the darn board. Maybe in two weeks when I am a 'displaced worker' (according to the state) [I feel unemployed 🙂 ] I will be able to get on in the daytime. (but then won't have the $$ to pay day rates. ahh cruel fate) –jp–

Hmmm.. PageSetter-II doesn't seem to suffer from that bug, and I suspect PPage doesn't, either (same CG driver module).

Sounds like Gold Disk found and corrected the problem before releasing PPage. But then again PageStream aspires to do MUCH more with the CG fonts. PPage only needs to display text in its normal upwrite position in a very limited number of fixed magnifications. PageStream displays text at any magnification (like a CAD ZOOM function). It also will display & print text that has been rotated at any angle about any or all of the three axis! Now I dont know whether this means that PageStream used more of the CG driver module than PPage, or whether they adapted there own code, but it certainly was a more complicated task. I am willing to wait a LITTLE time for SL to get it straightened out. -Paul-

Well, your message just brought me a bit a relief to a suspicion had that perhaps CG fonts weren't suited for anything but 'upright' rendering. It's good to know they can be so flexible.

You don't happen to know if they plan on updating their ASCII input driver do you? I'd really like to see a "double LF means paragraph" import. Right now, importing from UEdit rarely comes out looking anything like what goes in. Victor A. Wagner, Jr.
