HP is offering DJ and DJ+ owners an upgrade path to the new DJ500. Cost is
$175 for DJ+ and $225 for DJ. DJ500 has more/new built in fonts and a
non-smeer ink. This ink will be available for all DJ at a later date. Call
HP for full details.
You should check out the HP forum for more information. From what I've
heard the DJ500 is rated at 3 ppm for TEXT (the DJ Plus is 2 ppm) Graphic
printing is about 15% faster than the Plus. I haven't heard of any new
fonts (there was/is a rumor that it included scalable fonts…. It Doesn't!
Only thru a Windows 3.0 driver which will work on any DeskJet)
A new feature is built in kerning of TEXT fonts.
It may be worth it for an owner of the original to upgrade but I don't see
(I have a DeskJet Plus) the spending of $175 to be well spent.
