#micron p60

One thing you failed to mention was the price difference I can buy two, almost
two Microns for the price of a DEC,
32megs ram and 2gig SCSI2 hd . You can't beat Micron for memory. and 3ds needs
all it can get. Also I belive most of the support for the AXP 21066 are
contained in the Processor itself,( no need for support chips unlike 80×86
architecture) that is why DECXL'S can be fully upgraded. Why all the fuss about
the AXP untill we know the direction of things to come for certain. What about
the new M1 chip from Cyrix it is superscalar without recompilation and might be
out this year!

That's another reason NOT to buy the DEC for Pentium reasons.
Unless you really like spending more money than you have too.<g>

I hadn't heard about this Chipset. Sounds Interesting…Do you have any more
information about this?

Funny you should mention that, Yes I have a little more info on the M1
unfortunitly Cyrix is not saying much. I don't know, and they wont say if they
have first silicon, but they say it will run nonrecompiled code 90 percent as
fast as opposed to the pentium's 70 percent. Everything is still sketchey at
this point but it should be fun to see what happens, IMHO one company should
not have a strangle hold on CPU's or OS's.
>> From what I understand (as of December) the M1 chip is inferior in
floating point performance to the Pentium, so recompiled or not, it's
BS as far as FPU intensive stuff is concerned, and the AXP blows away
the Pentium there. Obviously the AXP is useless for 3DS right now,
but what about the future? I'm thinking about the gamble. John

I take it you caught this message from John T.
Anyone have anymore real good feedback on this?

I got the info on the M1's fpu performance from a December (I think) issue of
BYTE. I don't have the mag anymore, so I can't quote anything from it, but I
was really excited about the M1 until I read the fpu part.
