#Whap! and Courier HST !

Can anybody tell me the settings I should use in my startup-string in WHAP1
to use with my Courier HST modem. I have to set my Whap! config file to 3
wire to get it to dial. Anybody else using this setup?

Set Whap to 7-wire, set the MNP flag. Then go to Preferences, set your
baud rate to 19200 and your flow control to RTS/CTS and save. You might
also want to increase the buffer size (mine's at 16K). Make sure the modem
is also set for RTS/CTS (it should be that way from the factory, but the
manual will tell you). I think one of them is "AT&R2". It should start
working just fine.

I recently set the MNP flag on and now Whap! won't shut off at the end of
a session. It seems that MNP is hanging up before the end of the final
hangup messages (it can do that, ya know). Since I haven't found any
immediate benefit to having the switch turned on, I think I'll go back to
trying it without the MNP button.

I have that happen to me periodically, too. It seems to be independent
of the MNP button, more like it's the modem. I believe Whap looks for a
particular string to terminate a session, and if the modem hangs up before
it gets that string, Whap won't recognize it. What I do is simply hit the
Abort Now button and that gets me back to the main menu just fine.
The benefit of the switch is, it sets the serial port to 9600 rather
than 2400 (right, Steve?) which lets the modem dump to the computer faster,
speeding up (somewhat, anyway) the transfer process. I have it on all the
time, and on the average I'm a minute or two per session (once a day) ahead
with it on (if CIS is responding normally and isn't slow like it has
sometimes been lately). Not much, but over time it'll add up.

Just a note. I use Whap! with an HST and if the MNP flag is set will get
sporadic errors in the messages. If I leave the MNP flag off it works
fine. Looks like it goes a little too fast in MNP mode.

hmm…I haven't noticed that here and I have an HST as well. The only
thing I have noticed is that about 1 out of every 3 or so sessions, Whap
won't recognize the end of the session.

Maybe it's just my setup (2090A with two partions on a Qantum drive, a
couple of floppy, regular 2000 and a few programs such as virusx,
popupmenu, dmouse, and tracksalve running) not quite being able to keep up
at 9600. I use JrComm1.00reg normally with an 8 color screen and it also
'burps' once in a while.
Anyway, my experinence with Whap not recognizing the end of the session is
more like 3 out of 4 NOT realizing it's the end. No correlation with the
MNP flag tho, it happens both with and without. No biggie, it'll either
time out eventually or I can hit abort session now like I usually do.

it has been noticed that downloads at 9600 can overload a standard
system. Try reducing the system load and see if that improves things.

I have noticed that same thing (errors on both messages and downloads) if
the MNP flag is on. If off, I do not get them. Does anyone know exactly
the correct procedure for using the MNP flag (it isn't documented in the
WHAP documentation that I have (1.9). Does it depend, for example, on
RTS/CTS flow control? I had XON/XOFF set in preferences at the time…
