Silicon Graphics

Does anybody know anything about the new Silicon Graphics machine "INDY", can
it run 3d Studio when it is in P.C. emulation mode? If so will I be able to use
the network and slave features in release 3 to utilise our existing P.C.'s
Phil.
Hi there,
Yes, I got a broshure on the unit, and some representatives from SGI are
bringing a unit for review. For now, while I get the unit, I can tell you that
the DOS and MAC emulations are PAINFULLY SLOW, as in "impossible to deal with"
so rendering times wouldn't be realistic to work with.
For now, I'd stick to DOS based systems, until Gary and the guys write 3DS for
the SGI.
Besides if you're getting an INDY with a modeling software package written for
SGI's, IT will cost as much as the INDY does, and in order to run the program,
you'll need more RAM than what it brings and a HD, since it brings none.
So trust me, the proposition for an INDY is not as good as it sounds, althogh
the camera is cute (g).
If you're going to go SGI, might as well go with a base model INDIGO. for less
money and a faster system.
