Misleading Statement

There is a misleading statement in the little flyer that comes with Animator Pro, entitled "Autodesk Forums on Compuserve". In reference to all three forums it says "Autodesk is committed to answering all questions directed to us within 24 hours (except on holidays and weekends)". I have been told very clearly by one of the Autodesk staff, Brian Rudolph, that this is not in fact the case.

Stephen, What is erroneous about that statement ???? They are committed to answering any question within 24 hours. Sometimes the answers are within minutes of posting, others seem to take forever….<g>. And being humans rather than machines, sometimes things fall between the cracks or behind the file cabinets. But the commitment is still there. I wonder just what prompted this question in the first place.

what prompted that question is precisely what I was told by the Adesk person who informed me – Brian Rudolph. Now you are telling me that his statement was erroneous. Perhaps you should talk to him, its too confusing for me.

I think if you stick around the forum for a while you'll be less confused. Whatever Autodesk's "official" policy is, the point is moot because the wealth and speed of information, from Autodesk employees and from users, is astounding and always good in a pinch. I admit that sometimes it would be nice to get on the horn and get answers quick, but there's always your "authorized multimedia dealer" for that. Hope you stick around and reap the benfits of this forum. Regards, John Tissavary (La Luna cie)

Stephen, I've been involved with the Autodesk forums since way before they were the forum(S). There was a time when it was the Autodesk Forum…..<g>. I am not an Autodesk employee but because of certain situations I am privy to some information that is not general knowledge. These forums are not going away (at least in the near future….<g>). If anything they are expanding just like they expanded two years ago from one forum to three. This is also the only place where the individual user can talk directly to an Autodesk employee and get questions answered without having to purchase a very expensive service contract. And the combined knowledge among Autodesk employees and forum members exceeds any possible data base any place else in the known universe. I'm primarily an AutoCAD guy and I don't really know diddly about 3D Studio, but where else can you talk to the programmer that wrote the program. (Unfortunately, Gary Yost is busy getting Release 3 out the door or he would be answering your questions directly. Give him a coupla more days and he'll be back.) You may not get a direct answer from an official Autodesk employee every time because the number of questions would boggle anyone's mind. So if you get an answer that makes sense from a forum member, most Autodesk support personel on these forums will bypass your question and go on to the next one. If the answer supplied doesn't make sense or needs some additional explaination, you will get that from the employee. And in most cases it will be within 24 hours. Just stick around and watch. Bet you'll agree with me shortly….<big grin>.
