#PROFESSIONAL HELP!
7 messages in this thread
Good News!
I believe that I was sucessful in selling my current employer on the
merits of 3d presentations this morning! (using my "crash prone"
quickly-put-together flic) Now for the questions(g)!:
I will be creating a proposal(?) for animations-the options:
1. I work as a consultant, using my own equipment, and charge on an hourly
or per-project basis.
2. The company purchases the required hardware and software for a DOS
based (3DStudio) animation and "video production" suite. Where I would be a
salaried employee.
3. Same as #2, but workstation (unix) based system.
Questions:
1. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for what I should charge as a
'consultant'? If there's a difference, I'm located in the Boston area.
I
would like to charge a reasonable amount, but I don't want to scare them
off.
2. I feel comfortable selecting the dos system, but would like to know
what
some mid-end and some low-end video systems (VTR(s), controller, graphics
card?) might consist of.
3. I'm kind of a die-hard 3DS fan, but if anyone has had any experience
with
a unix based 3D system, this information would be appreciated. (program,
workstation, other?)
Thanks for any help! Keeping my fingers crossed(bg)!

$60-75 per hour seems to be the going rate in most cases but of course it
is always flexible depending on the situation.
Good luck

Ted,
Thanks Ted, good to hear from you!
That sounds pretty reasonable. I hope to have a letter outlining all
of
the options ready on tuesday, so that someone can make a decision soon.
Will you be at the 3DStudio USER GROUP meeting on thursday? (For
anyone
out there-this is the NE group-held in Boston on second thursdays).
Last
meeting went very well–saving up for r.3!:-)
Thanks again and hope to see you thursday,
Bob W.

Good to see you up here on CIS and congrats for getting the powers at work
to take 3DS seriously.
You can get some of the best professional advice here on the forum.
Although most of these characters on the forum are not near as pretty as I
am (I've seen many of them, ……live!), they are a heck of a lot
smarter.<G>
Yes, I'll be there Thurs. night and will be posting a message to all on CIS
early next week. Have fun.

Hey! I resemble that remark! <bg>

I agree you resemble that remark, especially the second part.
Last I heard about r2-r3 pricing was to be $497.
Will you be up at Autodesk U in October?
See ya!

I'm going to try to be there myself, but we will definitely be represented
at the U.
Hope to see you there!
