#Big HD for A600
7 messages in this thread
Help! I'm using an A600 and need some serious storage. Does anyone know whe I
can find 160+ MB drives in the 2 1/2 inch size? My "local" (70 miles away)
Amiga dealer is no help, and Tenex doesn't carry the real big drives. (The
reason I want such a big drive for the 600 is that i intend to move it to a
1200 or 4000 later.) -Aaron B. Thanx in advance fo rthe help!
Any mail order PC house will carry 2.5" IDE drives; the biggest is 1 gig, I
think.
Bob
I think the largest 2.5 IDE drive available is Maxtor 250Mb. CBM specifies ONLY
Seagate and Western Digital drives to comply with warranty. Stick with
Seagate, up to 200 MB available.
Glad I had to have my A600 replaced; my original unit had a bad joystick port-
and was ROM 37.299- the one that wasn't Seagate compatible. (Why?) Anyway,
thanx for the advice!
Dan,
Any idea why CBM says that Maxtors do not "comply with warranty?"
(Just curious, from a guy with a 200MB Maxtor 3.5" in his A1200.)
Joe
CBM doesn't say that, exactly. They say only to use Seagate and WD. I've used
Maxtors, too. and they work fine. Many other drives, however, DO NOT work
fine. CBM only authorizes dealers to install Seagate and WD as of the latest
information I received. I don't know why. Ours is not to reason why …
Aaron,
If there is a 2.5" IDE Gig drive, I'd love to hear about it. In fact,
>500 meg IDE drives are somewhat uncommon, no matter what their
formfactor.
I believe that the largest 2.5" IDE drive one is going to find these days
is around 250 megs. Robert should pickup a copy of Computer Shopper, and
try Hard Drives International, APS, DC Drives, Megahaus, SoftHard…all of
these guys can hook you up with a drive, although they won't know much
about the host machine.
