1950 Display Doubling

I've been having a problem with my 1950 monitor. It happens both on my Amiga side and my IBM side (386sx w/VGA board). At certain higher resolutions — I haven't yet noticed if it's only certain ones — the display will split in two. Sometimes it will re-synch and be ok, but most of the time I must exit that display mode if on the Amiga side, or bring up by VGA settings program on the IBM side and hope one of the test displays re-synchs things, or it's reboot time. I guess I just need a new monitor, and I've been reading about some good 17-inch displays (Nanao F550-iw, for one), but I'd love to be able to save my good ole' Commodore 1950. Has anyone ever seen this problem, and might there be some adjustment I could do, or must I send it somewhere for repair (I'm 150 miles from the nearest Amiga service center)? Just thought I'd post this in case someone has a good solution.
