Can someone recommend a program which can convert graphic images into DXF for extruding in 3D Studio? I've been scanning in logos from letterhead, etc. to texture map for some rough-draft flying logos, but would like accurate individual models for a higher-end look without too much effort. I think Hijack Pro can do this. Are there others? TIA M. Bman

By "graphic images", do you mean bitmaps? If so, you could try CorelDraw's auto-trace (then export .AI to the Shaper). Also, you can trace bitmaps in the Shaper using the "See Backround" command in the Views menu. -Alan Iglesias

Mathew – if the scans were made with a hand scanner, you can use a program called Draftsman HS from Arbor Image Corp in Ann Arbor MI (313-741-8700). Last time I checked, it cost $195. I've been reviewing this program for CADalyst through its last few releases and it's pretty good. It will convert PCX or TIF to DXF or DXB. The HS version won't handle scans larger than a hand scanner creates, but they also have versions for page scanners and large-document scanners. Dave

Actually, converting scanned images from my Logitech hand scanner is exactly what I need. Thanks for the tip. Hand-tracing shapes in the Shaper with See Background on is what I've been doing — it works, but can get mighty tedious with complex shapes.

Mathew, << convert multiple digital photographs into a DXF >> Check out Issue # 13 of 3D Artist pg 5. There is an article about a product from Eos Systems of Vancouver,B.C. that helps you shoot and use multiple digital photographs of the real world object and convert to a DXF replica.
