Hey, just browsing ad pages at PC Mag last issue and found a CD-ROM from Pixar for $179.95 in the Microwarehouse (here at CI$, GO MCW). The CD-ROM in question includes 128 high-quality 512x512x24 tiff textures (the add said it's part of their private collection -?-). Also say that all the textures will be tiled seamlessly, because the use of a patented pixar technology (if they said that). Sounds to me as a great complement to 3ds, but look the price. It must have awesome and perfect texture maps for that price -only 128tiffs $179.95?) Anyone have used it? ana /krazy images

Ana, haven't seen that one (Pixar cd-rom), but I have seen something else that got me interested. I saw an advert in a recent magazine, but I can't find it (they may be by Kodak). They are multiple collections of photo-cd format photographs, 100 on each collection, subjects are things like: mountains, forests, deserts, etc. (lots of variety). They are $50 each and IF they are in _all_ the photo-cd resolutions (up to 3000×2000) they are a real bargain. I have some other collections which are cheaper but only come in 640×480, which is rather limiting for pre-press applications. (these are called "Wild Places, Majestic Places, World Views (NASA images) etc. and cost about $27 for 100 images). I really like these kind of collections because you can make still image compositions or montages with them (Altamira Composer makes this very easy, technically), use them as foreground or backgrounds in 3ds or as reflection maps. If I was really adventurous (I am) and had lots of time and money (I don't) I would travel the world with a Nikon and make my own collections <g>. I will try to find the adverts, because I think these collections sound great.
