#Color bands!

Hello All,
I posted a message a couple weeks ago, and I think it got lost in the
earthquake shuffle, so here goes again:
I just changed monitors, and am getting a strange banding in my shadows. This
shows up in all the images I've rendered myself, but doesn't in the CD-ROM
images. I've tried all kinds of settings and can't seem to get rid of it. It
must be some sort of configuration..
It maybe the gamma, although that seems to be set.
I've uploaded a file that displays it. I'm once you set it, you'll know for
sure. At the same time, you can give suggestions for the image, as I new to use
it for a job interview. I'd like to show you all some others, if you'd be
willing to take the time to download.
Anyway, the file is called "1off17.jpg", in section 9.

There's really no way to tell why you'd be seeing a banding problem from
looking at the jpg file. The best thing for you to do would be to reduce the
scene to just one spotlight on a white surface, with an object casting a
shadow. If you can reproduce the banding effect with a simple scene like that,
zip up the .prj file along with a .jpg output by your system and send them to
me to take a look at. I'll render it here and will hopefully be able to figure
out what's going on with your setup.

here's a couple of thoughts:
1) Do you have the dither-true-color set to YES in Render options?
2) Are you doing a video post composition with any .ixp IPAS routines?
Each of these may cause banding.
