Doug, Hi, My name is Gary Welch; I am sending this message to you in hopes that you can direct me to a source of information. I am looking for a program or a map that will show me the earthquake history of California, with faults and locations, and times/dates. I have tried the geological survey at Cal Tech, But got no response from them. Is there a program that will give this information, or maybe a BBS that specializes in earthquakes??? I would appreciate any information you could pass on. THANKS Gary W.

May I jump in? You can get a great deal of quake info from: Public Seismic Network (FREE), (408)226-0675, 2400 N-8-1 This is one of several numbers in the Bay & LA areas. Detailed lists of quakes can be downloaded. I don't have handy the number for National Earthquake Information Center, Golden, CO. I think they have a BBS. If you want EQ warning info, check the files from my EARTHQUAKE WARNING RESEARCH PROJECT, which are available in Library one of EARTH forum. I am adding and upgrading files. Two items from bibliography EQBOOK.TXT are: California Quake, Meyer, Larry L., Nashville, Tenn.: Sherbourne Press, Inc., 1977. History, Geophysics, Earthquakes, Earthquake Prediction. !!! Excellent. Forward by SENATOR Alan Cranston; quakes "CAN BE PREDICTED." Spanish missions destroyed; history of EQ prediction efforts. 76-44275 0-8202-0134-0 QE535.2.U6M47 The Coming Quake, Heppenheimer, T.A., New York: Times Books (Random House), 1988. Earth Science, Geophysics, Dilatancy, Earthquake prediction. Latest scientific efforts: Kerry Seih, Brian Atwater, Karen McNally, etc.; !!! restricted to USGS tunnel vision; no outsiders allowed. 0-8129-1616-6 This project is a result of Charlotte King's experience. She HEARS the earth; predicted eruptions of Mt St Helens, many quakes. Bob 72164,2537

Hi, Gary– I do not know if it will have what you are after, but 800-358-2663 is a number I picked up from earlier forum messages for USGS seismology and geomagnetic data. Use 1200 bps and N-8-1 (no parity, 8 bits, 1 stop bit) modem settings. For 9600 bps (baud) use phone 1-703-648-4168. I have not tried this myself. You might also want to download GEOINF.ZIP in this forum's library (geology section 12), which tells how to contact the GeoInfo BBS network, as another possible source of info. –Doug
